Changing Channels
Tuesday, March 25th, 2008 We are in the fourth month of the Fresh Read, bible reading program. I hope that you have enjoyed keeping up with this project. It has been a different experience for me to preach from this format. But change is good; it keeps you on your toes.
In April, the New Testament readings are in Luke, which was covered in a sermon series last year. So for April we will “change channels” and explore some important concepts to be found in Deuteronomy, Joshua and Judges.
Deuteronomy is an interesting book. Moses is re-telling the history and re-giving the law that had been given to the previous generation. They rebelled and had to wander for the rest of their lives in the desert. Now their children are about to enter the land. What does this say to us about choosing life today?
Joshua was the leader after Moses. Those were big shoes to fill. It is worse that being the quarterback after Favre! We will see the word of the Lord to Joshua to be strong and courageous. Being strong is more than wearing a bracelet; it is a way of living by faith.
Judges has the history of the people of Israel from the days that they were in the Promised Land; up to the time they received their first king. Without leadership, there was a cycle of drift, disinterest, disobedience and then disaster. This cycle repeated over and over. We will ask if this cycle is turned on today, and how we can avoid it.
So keep reading, and come to Church as we will talk about these important biblical stories together.

After 92 inches of snow, we are looking forward to the first signs of spring. Song birds can be heard, and soon, we hope, you will see one of these crocus flowers.
